Promoting a green and sustainable local economy
The local green marketplace was created to be not just a marketplace, but a meeting-place. It is designed to allow businesses and organizations to communicate their sustainability goals to the public, as well as provide residents of the Big Bend a central location in which to find local goods and services that are 'green' and sustainable. But it goes even beyond that.
Proceeds from the marketplace will provide a number of free subscriptions to the local food network for limited-resource families so that they may access locally grown, organic produce. Sustainable Big Bend wants individuals of all income levels to be able to participate in the community-building process.
Proceeds from the marketplace will also help to plan and promote the annual Green Living and Energy Expo. This event promotes practical green and sustainable living strategies through educational workshops and a exhibitor showcase. It highlights ways we can live more lightly on the earth, while at the same time improving our quality of life. Basic listings in the marketplace directory are provide free of cost, however Marketplace subscribers at the Link-Back or Premium subscription levels receive a reduction on their vendor booth fee at the annual expo. It's a great way to promote your business and organization while at the same time helping the local community.
By participating in the Green Marketplace, you are helping to promote a green and sustainable local 'living' economy. Which in turn builds a stronger community...a place we all want to live and are proud to call 'home'!
